What To Do If The Coaxial Port Breaks Off From Your Vizio TV

The coaxial connection on a TV is most commonly used for cable service or for receiving antenna channels. The coaxial connection looks very different from other connections. The connection looks like a fat screw sticking out from the back of your TV.

Because this connection sticks out so far it’s easy to be hit or damaged. Sometimes a coaxial connection can be broken off from a TV. Once the connection has been broken from the TV it cannot be reconnected. Luckily you do have several options to resolve the issue and start watching TV again.

Fixing The Coaxial Port On An In Warranty TV

Vizio’s warranty covers defects to the input connections on the back of the TV. New Vizio TVs have a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase. Just contacts Vizio at 877-698-4946. A customer service rep will need your serial number and will explain your options for repairing the TV.

If the TV’s warranty is expired you would need to pay to have the TV repaired. The TV would need a new mainboard witch often costs $50 to $100 depending on what type of TV you have. Also you will need to hire someone to install the new mainboard witch will add to the cost of repair.

If you do not want to spend much money to have the TV repaired you do have alternatives to fixing the coaxial port.

Alternatives To Using The Coaxial Port

If your TV is no longer in warranty and you don’t want to pay the cost to have the TV repaired there are other options to connecting your devices and continue watching your programs.

Composite Connections

Composite cord. Also known as a red, white, and yellow cord.

If you want to connect a cable or satellite set-top box to your TV without a coaxial connection the best choice would be using a composite cord.

A composite cord is a single cord that splits into three parts on each end. The three parts are red, white, and yellow. Each of these connection will plug into a specific port on the back of your TV.

Composite connections are a great alternative to a coaxial connections because they both offer the same audio and video quality.

If you want to watch cable or satellite TV but you do not have a set-top box you will want to contact your TV service provider to ask about how to get one.

HDMI Connections For Cable Or Satellite TV

Connecting a cable or satellite set-top box using HDMI is best way to view broadcast TV—even if the coaxial connection on the TV is still functioning.

HDMI can offer full a 1080p picture and 5.1 audio. It provides the best possible audio and video signal for most set-top boxes.

HDMI Connections For Viewing Over-The-Air Antenna Channels

Maybe you like watching free, over-the-air antenna channels. Many people are using over-the-air channels and internet apps like Netflix as alternatives to cable TV. Even if the coaxial connection on your TV is broken there is still a way to watch antenna channels.

Some in home antennas now come with their own set-top boxes to connect to your TV. Many of these boxes have the option of connecting using an HDMI cord. If the coaxial connection on your TV has broken, using a set-top box antenna connected using HDMI is the best way to continue watching over-the-air channels.

Hi, thank you for your sit. So my coaxial port broke off. I live in an apartment where cabe is provided via a cable cord out of the wall. It recently started carrying HD channels.

I tried to get a cable box but they wouldn’t provide it for me. I also tried to get a satellite but it isn’t allowed in the building.

Is there a way to connect the cable cord to something that can connect to the HDMI of the tv without losing quality.

    Thanks for your help!

You can view your TV still through the usb if you do not have that option then it is probably time for a new TV. Tv repair was $100.00 for me cause I caused more of a problem! You could drop it off and have it fixed for less than $75 ROUGHLY
